These past few weeks have been kinda crazy, hectic and a little bit stressful. OK, if I’m being honest they’ve been more than a bit stressful, hence my absence so far in the first week of August! I should really blame the stress of the summer shuffle on myself. I give myself anxiety over every last little thing! The first week of August was packed with my very first blog-related teaching gig, where I demoed one of my very favorite recipes to a wonderful group, eager to learn more about gluten free baking. Between that and my sister’s bridal shower on August 1st, I worked myself all into a tizzy, and so HOME needed a one week vacation. I’m so excited to share the details and photos from my big sister’s bridal shower! My mom, the bridal party, and myself, MOH *insert queen emoji here;)* planned a beautiful coffee themed fiesta to shower my sister with love and well wishes before she becomes a Mrs. in October!
We decided on a coffee theme because for starters who does love coffee?!? My sister LOVES coffee, and I do too, so it was a natural fit! The fact that her fiancés name is Joe left us with endless ‘cup o’ Joe’ puns, and to top it off, my sister and her cup of Joe went to Starbucks on their first date. Can you say perfect?
Instead of table numbers, we cleverly came up with the idea of using coffee brands to label each table. There were five tables and we used Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, Maxwell House, 8 O’Clock Coffee and Folders as our ‘numbers.’ You guys know my obsession with Trader Joe’s and their well-priced flowers, and as I’m obsessed with DIY flower arrangements lately, I knew that coffee mug centerpieces were the way to go. I purchased big navy blue mugs and bought the flowers early the morning of. A LOT of snipping and a bit of cursing and I finally got all 5 flower arrangements to lay just right…almost.
My mom just may be the craftiest person EVER, so she made my sisters chair decor by hand, which was really cute! Us girls in the bridal party found cute baby espresso mug candles, and we printed out tags to make the perfect favors. Bridesmaid Deborah found the above banner, which was perfect for our coffee theme.
For a couple of quick and easy games, we came up with the ‘guess the age’ game seen above. A picture of the bride and a picture of the groom (missing from photo) were placed in front of choices. We left out pens and little slips of paper for guests to make a guess. At the end of the shower, we revealed the correct number and picked one winner from the grooms bag, and one winner from the brides bag. This left us with two winners, and each took home a bag of Joe!
My personal favorite game, unrelated to me getting to chop the grooms head off a photo (maybe,) was the above ‘Find the cup of Joe to win a Cup of Joe’ game. We took 10 disposable coffee cups and filled all but two with chocolate covered espresso beans. In the remaining two, we attached Joe the groom’s head, to a cartoon groom. We placed each Joe around a Starbucks gift card, leaving us with two winners. We had five tables, so we gave each table two cups and started a timer. Each table was instructed to pass the cups around. When the timer stopped, whoever was left with the cups, went home with whatever was inside! For some it was an edible treat, but for two lucky winners it was a cup of Joe in the form of a Starbucks gift card!
I’m not sure what’s cuter. Me and my gram, or the BB Dakota dress I fell in love with for shower day?! But seriously, how adorable is this floral midi dress? I’m obsessed with the pattern, and the fit and flare is SO flattering. Did I mention it’s under $100 too? Paired with my fav, oldie-but-goodie, Stuart Weitzman wedges, this outfit is one I can’t wait to wear again!
