They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Who ‘they’ are I’m not exactly sure, but hey, I think they’re on to something. What doesn’t kill you certainly does make you stronger, but you know what else makes you stronger too? Your tribe. You know, family and friends; the people that stick by you when the going gets tough. The one’s who lift you up when you feel your feet crumbling beneath you. Those people are like unicorns, beautiful and rare. This weekend I left behind all of the baggage of my life these days to hang with one of my unicorns, my very dear friend Ro. We spent a perfect fall Sunday eating, laughing, chatting and wandering around the West Village.
First up was a stop to fuel up at one of New York’s trendiest spots for vegan grub: By CHLOE. I’ve been DYING to try it for a while now. My family and closest pals know I haven’t eaten meat in about 5 years, aside from my illicit affair with half of a cheeseburger about a year ago…oops. When I was diagnosed with pericarditis five months ago, I began researching anti-inflammatory diets. Because pericarditis is caused by inflammation of the lining of the heart, I immediately began loading up on inflammatory fighters such as ginger and turmeric, and kicked dairy products like milk and cheese straight to curb, which, according to my research, can promote inflammation. I adapted to the dairy free life way easier than I expected. However the thought of goat cheese still makes me want to cry because I just love it so much. Since I’ve been blessed with a chronically inflamed pericardium for the last five months, I’m more conscious than ever about what I put into my body. I’m not sure if I’ll go back to eating dairy once I’m recovered. For now though, the dairy free life is one I’m willing to embrace. Especially if it includes delish vegan foods like this flavorful greek salad with vegan tofu feta from By CHLOE. If you follow me on the gram, you’ve probably seen me post juice pics #sorrynotsorry, but I just love a good nutrient packed, easy, on-the-go snack like green juice. Juice Press is my go-to, but I had to try By CHLOE’s take on cold-pressed juice. I give it a thumbs up: just sweet enough, but not too sweet, refreshing and good-for-you.
After our bellies were full and we were high on good veggie vibes we wandered where the weekend wind took us, and let me tell you, there is no better place to wander in New York than the West Village. The West Village is home to so many cute, quaint streets and secret garden-esque corners. We literally walked the day away, and I couldn’t have asked for a better day and a better place to disappear from reality.
I loved this outfit, and to be honest I wear a version of it in one way or another once a week or so. These Joie pants are a MUST have. I have them in three colors and I tell anybody who will listen that they have to have them. They are so easy to wear and super versatile. I’ve worn them everywhere from nights out with a pair of heels to an interview with a good black flat and with adidas for errands around town. These pants do it all. The RM booties are the latest addition to my closet and I am obsessed. I’ve worn them three times already and gotten compliments on them each time. For under $200 you really can’t pass them up. I hope you love this look! What did you do this weekend? Leave me a comment below. Xx
