When I first dreamed up the concept for Heaps of Me, I wanted the name to reflect exactly what my lifestyle blog would be about. HOME was not meant to be strictly a fashion, food or beauty blog, but rather it was meant to encompass all of what makes me, me! HOME is an extension of my life, and just as I enjoy writing about products I love, items I adore and recipes I am drooling over, there is so much more to me. A huge part of who I am is made up of the people I surround myself with. I am honored to know some of the most creative, sweet, and inspiring go-getters out there. Not to mention my friends are pretty freakin’ cool if you ask me. Today I am thrilled to interview my soul sister, Nicole Riekert, on life as a Model Manager at Wilhelmina Models in NYC and get a sneak preview of her upcoming blog.
Heaps of Me: Do you work with male models, female models or both, and what division do you work under?
Nicole Riekert: I get the opportunity to work with male and female models every day. I work under the Runway Division and we handle everything LIVE! From presentations, showroom, fashion shows, events etc. I LOVE everything about it! The volume is extremely high and the environment is very fast paced.
HOME: What is a typical day workday like for you?
NR: My typical work day might start off as a normal work day for some; I stop at Starbucks, get a Venti Green Tea Lemonade (NEED!), walk into my office and then the fun begins! I am working non-stop all day. Booking models on jobs that are coming through every minute. Models also come into the office just to stop by, have digitals taken, measurements done, or just update us on their weekend. I am emailing and talking on the phone all day long negotiating rates and trying to make our models as much money as possible. I have the ability to work with male and female models, which is very rare in this industry. I interact with so many different people each day it is a rewarding experience. Depending on the day of the week, I finish my day with a soul cycle class, drinks with friends, or exclusive work events. Typical day as a model manager isn’t so bad!
HOME: Can you tell us what kind of clients you work with?
NR: I work with the most amazing clients. There are so many, but just to name a few: Alexander Wang, Victoria’s Secret, DKNY, Calypso, BCBG, J Brand, Rag and Bone, Chanel and many more!
HOME: What is your favorite thing about working as a Model Manager?
NR: There really are so many things I love about my job. I am working behind the scenes with so many of my favorite designers and I love fashion! This is a dream job and I am exposed so many different people and personalities. I love that my job has broken me out of my shell and made me more outgoing. I love booking and confirming jobs, it is so fast paced and fun. I have become so close with some of our models that I am basically booking my friends and having a good time doing it.
HOME: You’re currently working on launching your first blog. Can you reveal the name and concept behind this exciting endeavor?
NR: I am SO excited to announce that I will be starting my first blog EVER! Of course I can reveal the name and concept. It will be called (NOT SO) SECRET AGENT NYC. This is basically going to be a blog about my job, my life and everything in between. I have a passion for fashion and I wanted to be able to express myself in a creative way. Although I am a Long Island girl, I really am a city girl at heart. I love everything from rooftops to rose’ and I want to let my readers in on the life that I am so lucky to live. My job at Wilhelmina Models has really shaped me into the person I am today. Working here for the past two years has completely changed my view on things and has taken me places I never even imagined. I “found” myself while working here and I plan on reflecting that in this blog.
HOME: What can readers expect to see on (Not So) Secret Agent NYC?
NR: Readers will basically get an insight into what being a Model Manager at Wilhelmina Models really involves. Such as, my work week Monday through Friday, but also my jam packed schedule that includes model meetings to client dinners and, of course, prancing around NYC with all my stylish and creative friends. I feel that this is an exciting career and anyone that is in the fashion business would definitely be interested in the behind the scenes aspect.
HOME: What are you most excited to share with readers?
NR: I am excited to share my awesome job and my awesome life because I am awesome! LOL JK- but no really! I think readers will really enjoy the “behind the scenes” aspect of a model manager. No one really has any idea what goes on and this blog will allow them to understand how it all works and how I manage my job and my life. I like to refer to my life as a permanent calendar. I am managing models schedules and managing my own life at the same time.
HOME: We are so excited to see your blog up and running! Do you have a timeline for when you expect to launch?
NR: I want my blog to be PERFECT so I don’t want to rush anything. I had originally planned to launch my blog July 1, but the date has obviously changed. I plan to have things up and running by Friday July 10th fingers crossed!!!!
Thank you so much to Nicole for taking part in today’s post. Be sure to follow Nicole on instagram @notsosecretagentnyc and stay tuned for the launch of her, sure to be amazing, blog!
